I've Been Published

A couple of weeks ago I received an e-mail from an on-line guide book company. They had liked a picture I took 2 years ago at Sea World in Florida, and asked if they could use it in their next guide. Off course I said yes!!!! So here is the link Schmap on-line guide to Orlando, Florida.

Last Day at BT

Today is officially my last day with BT. I suppose it wouldn't surprise everyone that I am on a day's annual leave!!!

I have been with the company for over 19 years, and although I'm a little sad to be leaving after all those years, it does feel like a huge weight has lifted from my shoulders. I am rather excited about the future and what will unfold over the next few months or so.

I Need a Polariser

Compare this to the earlier picture I posted of Trafalgar Square, and compare the blue skies. I really do need to get a circular polariser.

Judy Garland Live????

I was visiting the The Royal Theatrical Fund Midsummer Fayre, and who should I spot, Judy Garland!!! Well actually it was someone who looks remarkably like her, who is playing her in a new West End show.

The event was to raise money for The Royal Theatrical Fund.

The London Eye Again...

Another picture from the other night, but this time from St James’ Park. It was still not completely dark. It's amazing that the reflection could be seen in the lake from that distance. It must be about a mile away from the River Thames.

London Eye at Night

For a long time now I have wanted to try my hand at night-time photography. I have had a tripod since Christmas, and I have not really been brave enough to go out and use it. So with a break in the rain, I ventured up to London, and this picture was one of my favourites of the evening.

Pet Photography

As you know, I have been striving to get some pictures of the pets. Now, I have found some great advice from The Digital Photography School. The article is crammed full of good tips, and hopefully over the coming weeks, you will see more of my attempts.

Red Door

As I was walking around Covent Garden I came across this door:

I was puzzled as to who was being warned, and why I, as a member of the public, was a cause of some danger??

The London Eye

What a summer we are having here in London. The sunshines every now and then, but on the whole we have had dull skies and rain. It’s very difficult to go out and get any decent pictures. Well unless you avoid getting any of the sky in the frame. Most of the pictures come out with blown out skies. So, I thought I would play around with this picture of the London Eye. I took it from the Golden Jubilee Bridge, which I think used to be the old Hungerford Bridge. However, the grey skies seem to ruin the colour image. As of late I have been shooting in RAW, so decided I would convert the image to Black and White. I must admit, it’s a vast improvement on the colour original.

The Grand Tour - Part 1

It seems to have been a while since I have held my camera, let alone gone out to play with it. So today, Sunday morning, as I was up with the lark, I thought it was an ideal time to go out. As it was 7am I thought it worth driving up to town, and I was rewarded with a parking space in Covent Garden. The main idea of going to London was to see The Grand Tour. It would have been so easy to take pictures of famous pieces of art, but I wanted to try and illustrate that they have just been put up on any free blank wall. So here are my efforts:

"Bathers at La Grenouillere" by Claude Monet

Rainham Marshes

This afternoon for my lunch break, I popped down to the Rainham Marshes RSPB centre. I don’t think this has been long open, and I was really on a research mission for a camera club outing. Until recently, this land was owned by the Ministry of Defence who used it as an artillery range. However, with the advent of a new road link as well as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, the land required a different use.

I was quite surprised as to what is there. I do like the modern building, which also doubles as an observation deck. The architecture is very simple, combining both metal with natural materials. I also noticed a solar panel on the roof, so I am guessing that the building is environmentally friendly as well. There is also a 3.5 mile nature trail, which I would love to go back and do. Also, there are some great views of London from the riverside walk, which also starts at the centre. Unfortunately, the time and the weather was not really on my side here, but I do intend to go back.
